Fast-Tracking A Social Security Disability Claim

Get Your Documentation Fast

Because of this, it's important to get diagnosed as soon as possible and to get thorough documentation regarding when the illness is believed to have become disruptive. You will need not only information about the illness and its prognosis but also a written statement that it has interfered with your ability to work.

Request a Compassionate Allowance

If your illness is particularly severe you may be able to request entry into the compassionate allowance list. The compassionate allowance list will fast-track the processing of your claim itself, but the payments will still only begin at the time when you were no longer able to work. Consequently, it may not be able to help you get your payments faster if your illness has only recently become severe.

File a TERI Disability Clam

A TERI disability claim is designed to work for those who have terminal illnesses. If you have a terminal illness, you may not b able to wait for your social security disability claim to be processed. TERI will require that your diagnosis itself be terminal. Medical documentation should be included early on in the process to ensure that it is handled correctly.

Proving Dire Need for Social Security Disability

If your illness is not particularly severe and you aren't terminal, there may still be a way for you to fast-track your claim. You'll simply need to show dire need. Dire need requires that you be immediately negatively impacted by your lack of finances. If you do not currently have enough money for food or rent, you may be in dire need. Dire need will expedite the hearing related to your disability claim.

As noted, though the processing of social security disability and its related hearings can be expedited, there's nothing that can cut through the waiting process for the money itself, which is related to your diagnosis.
